Or Lapid – ‘Creative Mothers’

’Having Karni naturally transformed my whole life experience, shifting it into a more domestic and isolated sphere, especially after two years of creating and learning alongside fellow artists at Slade. The sudden lack of time for myself made it difficult to find space, both physically and mentally, to paint. Without access to a studio, I had to adapt and work from home. These limitations forced me to approach creativity differently: painting smaller, quicker watercolors that carried emotional power through their expressive marks, or turning to still lifes that reflected my immediate surroundings, often incorporating Karni’s toys into the compositions.

During that time, I spent hours simply observing Karni paint, amazed by the freedom in his mark-making - so expressive and uninhibited, yet somehow feeling completely intentional. That quiet inspiration stayed with me and helped me reconnect with my own practice when I finally returned to the studio, where I began exploring more abstract works influenced by his drawings and sense of play.

But more than anything, since Karni was born, I’ve felt that he is the most meaningful creation I could ever make. For a while, that deep sense of fulfillment quieted the urgency to make art. It was as if the act of creating had shifted from canvas to life itself. Still, the challenges of motherhood, its intensity and intimacy, have started to feed back into my practice in ways I’m only beginning to understand.’

A portrait of Rose Lander

Rose is one of the most fascinating people I’ve met. Her warmth and passion for life shine through in everything she does. It’s evident not only in her personal style, but also in the way her home radiates comfort, creativity and character. Every detail feels intentional, reflecting her unique spirit. When I asked her how she maintains her curiosity and positivity she simply said - you can pick life or you can pick death. I picked life. Let us all be a bit more Rose, let us all pick life.

Gal Melnick – ‘Creative Mothers’

Gal Melnick is an artist whose works are compositions of shapes and colors, which create a dialog between different mediums. "I find inspiration in various subjects such as nature, mythologies, modern culture and the interaction between the banality of everyday life with imaginary worlds. I’m always curious to examine the transformation of two dimensional shapes and lines into three dimensional objects. My interest is to create a situation in which the objects begin to lose their relation to place, time and form."

Eat to Live or Live to Eat

Stylist and art director Camilla Wordie approached me to be part of her great project. She interviewed ten people, from shop owners to artists, designers and storytellers to find out their favourite ten ingredients and first food memories. We then turned these into still-life portraits.

I 'took the portrait' of Tom Broughton, founder of Cubitts. Being a Cubitts wearer myself for nine years you can imagine how thrilled I was. It also closed a circle for me as I photographed something with art director Emma Montague for Tom years ago, see below.

Honoured to be part of this amazing project by Camilla and to have worked alongside incredible photographers such as Kristy Noble, Maria Bell, Emma Lee, Marco Kesseler, Alice Fisher, Natasha Alipour-Faridani, Dave Watts, Ollie Tomlinson and Beth Evans

Lockdown Walks - NW

Like so many others I love travelling and encountering new places, people and traditions around the world. Since March 2020 things have been different. With lockdown and quarantine measures in place, travelling has become more challenging and the advice is to stay at home. So I decided to go for a daily walk around my neighbourhood in North West London, being mindful

of the things I see close to home. Through these daily walks I have explored and observed nature, the play of light and shadows and discovered that familiar surroundings can appear surprisingly different every time I step outside.
